ChatGPT Can Now Build Your Pitch Deck With You. Here's Why That's a Big Deal
OpenAI just rolled out a feature called ChatGPT Slides. Starting October 16, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users can build a full presentation right inside ChatGPT, edit it with teammates in real time, and export the finished deck to PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides.
This is not a plugin bolted onto PowerPoint. It is a standalone slide builder living inside ChatGPT itself, built for the way people actually work: start from a conversation, a pile of files, or a rough outline, and let the AI turn that into a real deck.
What actually changed
Here's what the feature does, based on OpenAI's own release notes:
- You can start a deck from a chat, from uploaded files, or from an outline, and even hand it an example deck to match the style.
- You can edit text, images, shapes, and charts directly, or just ask ChatGPT to make the change for you.
- Teammates can be invited into the same deck to edit together in real time and leave comments.
- Finished decks export to PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides on the web, or open straight in PowerPoint or Keynote on desktop.
It rolled out alongside an update to GPT-6 Pro that brings faster responses and better tool use, so the whole experience should feel snappier than earlier AI-slide attempts.
Why this is a bigger deal than it sounds
Every growing business runs on decks. Sales pitches. Investor updates. Board reports. Client proposals. Internal training. Someone on your team is almost always building or fixing a presentation, usually the night before it's due.
Up to now, AI slide tools felt like a side quest. You'd generate something in a separate app, then drag it into PowerPoint and spend an hour fixing the formatting. ChatGPT Slides collapses that gap. You start in the same place you already do research, write copy, and pull together ideas, and you end with a deck your team can polish together without ever leaving the tool.
That matters for three reasons if you run a small or mid-sized business:
- Less dead time between idea and output. A sales rep can turn a client call transcript into a tailored pitch deck in minutes instead of handing it off to someone else the next day.
- Fewer tools to manage. If your team already lives in ChatGPT for research, writing, or customer support, this removes one more app from the stack.
- Real collaboration, not just generation. The real-time co-editing piece is what separates this from a novelty. A manager can shape a deck live with a teammate instead of emailing versions back and forth.
The catch worth knowing
This is a gradual rollout, limited for now to Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans with Space access. If it is not in your account yet, it is not broken, it just has not reached you. And like any AI-generated document, a deck that is about to go in front of a client or a board still needs a human set of eyes on the numbers and claims before it goes out the door.
What this means for your business
This is one more sign that the line between "chat with AI" and "get real work done" is disappearing fast. Slides, spreadsheets, documents. The tools businesses use every single day are becoming things you build inside an AI conversation instead of switching apps to finish.
If you are still treating ChatGPT as a question-and-answer box, you are leaving a lot on the table. The businesses that win over the next year will be the ones that figure out which parts of their daily grind, pitch decks, reports, proposals, can be handed to an AI system built specifically for their workflow, not just a generic chat window.
Takeaway: AI tools are quietly turning into AI workstations. The faster your business figures out which repetitive, time-consuming tasks can move into one of these systems, the more hours you get back to spend on the work that actually grows the business.
